The Story Behind the Sweet

Hi, I’m Billy.
Welcome to my kitchen.

A warm, slightly flour-covered mom who believes the best memories are made at the kitchen table — with your people, your mixing bowls, and something sweet in the oven.

made simple

It started with flour on my sweater and joy in my heart

I didn’t set out to start a dessert blog. It started the way most good things in my life have started — a little bit messy, with my daughter next to me and Christmas music playing in the background.

It was December. My daughter was four. She’d been asking to “help bake” for weeks and I kept putting it off, picturing broken eggs and sugar everywhere. (Spoiler: that did happen. More than once.)

But that afternoon, we made sugar cookies. Simple, imperfect sugar cookies. She frosted hers with three times too much icing and declared them “the most beautiful cookies in the entire world.” And I looked at her little hands and thought — this. This is what I want more of.

MerryDessert is that collection. Every cozy, easy, joy-filled recipe that has ever brought my family around the kitchen table.

Desserts aren’t just recipes.
They’re memories waiting to happen.

🎄

Because the holidays deserve to feel magical

Christmas is my favorite season — it’s basically a personality trait at this point. I start listening to carols in October and I have zero regrets. I believe every December kitchen should smell like cinnamon, ginger, and something warm in the oven. Every recipe here is built to help you create that magic at home, without stress, without fancy equipment — just joy.

👧

Because baking with kids is one of life’s great pleasures

Messy? Absolutely. Worth it? Every single time. When you bake with a little one, you’re not just making cookies. You’re building something they’ll remember for decades. My daughter is older now and can crack eggs without (too much of) a disaster, but every recipe I create is still designed for little helpers, distracted moms, and real kitchens.

☕

Because “easy” should actually mean easy

I am tired of recipes that promise “simple” and then call for a candy thermometer and three types of specialty flour. Every single recipe on MerryDessert is genuinely easy. Real-mom tested. Tired-evening approved. If I can make it with a four-year-old “helping,” you can definitely make it too.

💝

Because a warm kitchen is the best room in the house

I believe in the power of a cozy kitchen. The smell of something baking changes the entire atmosphere of a home. It slows everything down. It brings people in from their rooms. It turns a regular Tuesday into something worth remembering. That’s what MerryDessert is about — not perfection, not impressive technique. Just warmth, and love, and something sweet.

Real moments, real sweetness

This is what MerryDessert looks like — warm light, little hands, and always something chocolate nearby.

The heart behind every
recipe I share

01

Warmth Over Perfection

A lopsided cookie made with love beats a flawless one made alone every single time. I celebrate the messy, the imperfect, and the real moments in my kitchen — and I hope you do too.

02

Simple Is Always Enough

You don’t need 15 specialty ingredients or a stand mixer to create something magical. Simple, honest ingredients handled with care can make the most memorable desserts of your life.

03

Family Is Everything

Every recipe here is designed to bring people together — not to impress strangers on the internet, but to create a moment with the people you love most. That’s the whole point.

04

Seasons Are Sacred

There is nothing like baking something specific to the season you’re in. Pumpkin in October. Gingerbread in December. Strawberries in June. These rituals are how we mark time beautifully.

05

Joy Is the Ingredient

Before flour, before butter, before sugar — joy is what makes a dessert truly special. If you’re baking with a happy heart and little helper, whatever comes out of that oven will be perfect.

06

Every Mom Deserves This

You don’t have to be a pastry chef. You don’t have to have a beautiful kitchen. You just have to want to make something sweet with the people you love. That’s enough. You are enough.

A few things about me

Because the best connections start with the most random things in common

🎄 Christmas in October

I start listening to Christmas music the second October hits and I feel genuinely zero shame about it.

🍫 Team Chocolate

If given the choice, it’s chocolate. Always chocolate. My daughter has inherited this trait and I’m proud.

⭐ The Rating System

My daughter rates recipes on a 1–5 sprinkle scale. A “5 sprinkle” recipe is when we know it’s going on the blog.

☕ Coffee First

No baking happens in this house before my first cup of coffee. This is a firm and non-negotiable rule.

📌 Pinterest Addict

I save 40 pins a week and actually make maybe 3 of them. Welcome to my life. I understand you completely.
